heyleothelion: the plant’s name is called “makahiya” and hiya in tagalog means “shy”. whenever you touch the leaves, they immediately fold up together looking as if it’s really shy hence the name. I used to play with these all the time when we lived in San Juan. We would touch them and say, “Go to sleep!”
